Businessman Mohamed Al Fayed accused of sexual abuse

Twenty former employees of the well-known Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al Fayed accuse him of sexual abuse. Five of them say they were raped by the billionaire who died last year at the age of 94, the British public broadcaster BBC reports after an investigation.

Al Fayed was the owner of the luxury department store Harrods, the Ritz in Paris and the football club Fulham. He was also the father of Dodi Al Fayed, who had an affair with the British Princess Diana. The two died together in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

The abuse of Mohamed Al Fayed took place over a period of years, the BBC says. Harrods allegedly failed to intervene and even covered up the misconduct.

While he was alive, Al Fayed faced allegations of sexual assault, but the BBC said the allegations are now of an unprecedented scale and seriousness, with many more women likely to have been assaulted.

The incidents are said to have occurred in London, Paris, Saint-Tropez and Abu Dhabi.
