Sophia Loren celebrates 90th birthday, private party in Rome

Sophia Loren turns 90 today: the most famous Italian actress in the world will be celebrated tonight in Rome with a special, strictly private event at The Space Cinema Moderno organized by the Ministry of Culture, where she will be presented with an award by Undersecretary Lucia Borgonzoni and the President of Cinecittà, Chiara Sbarigia. Talks are expected from friends of the artist, winner of two Oscars, 5 Golden Globes and a Golden Lion, who have come from all over the world.

A private party was organised for the evening with his sons Edoardo and Carlo Ponti accompanied by their wives, the American actress Sasha Alexander and the Hungarian violinist Andrea Meszaros, as well as his four grandchildren Lucia, Leonardo, Vittoria and Beatrice, his sister Maria Scicolone and a hundred colleagues and friends.

In Pozzuoli, where the protagonist of “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, “Marriage Italian Style” and “Two Women” spent her childhood, a pop mural has been created to celebrate her. Events to pay homage to the icon of Italian cinema are scheduled from Florence to Naples to Los Angeles where the Academy of Motion Pictures museum from 7 to 30 November will host a retrospective of her films organized by Cinecittà with the grand finale in Santa Monica and a concert by tenor Pasquale Esposito conducted by maestro Carlo Ponti Jr., her firstborn son with her husband, producer Carlo Ponti.
