YouTube won’t give you a break: ads will appear even when you pause the video

If you thought you’d seen enough ads on YouTubeGoogle’s video platform has implemented a new strategy for displaying advertising: now ads will also appear when you pause a video.

Users on platforms like Reddit have shared images of this new advertising format, which is seen both in the YouTube app for televisions as well as mobile devices.

As Hipertextual reports, in the TV version, when pausing a video, the player shrinks and moves to the left, while the ads appear on the right. These include two buttons, one to ignore the ads and another to obtain more information.

On mobile, ads appear differently. If you’re watching a video in full screen and in landscape mode, ads appear to the right of the player. If the device is in portrait mode, they appear below the video.

YouTube explained to The Verge that this expansion responds to the high demand of advertisers and users According to the platform, the new format aims to be less intrusive than in-play ads, although it is unclear whether it will reduce the overall amount of advertising.

To avoid ads, The only option is to subscribe to YouTube Premium This subscription removes ads and offers additional benefits like downloading videos for offline viewing, background playback, and unlimited access to YouTube Music Premium.
