Nintendo and The Pokémon Company sue creators of “Palworld”

Nintendo y The Pokémon Company have sued the creators of the popular video game “Palworld” in a court in Tokyo, Japan.

In the lawsuit, filed on September 18, Nintendo and the house of Pikachu accuse Pocketpair, creators of Palworld, of multiple patent infringements and are demanding compensation for damages.

Described by many as Pokémon with guns, “Palworld” quickly gained popularity after its release in January of this year, becoming one of the most played video games of all time on the Steam platform.

However, the design of the characters – called Pals in the video game – raised more than one eyebrow due to its similarity to certain portable monstersso much so that in January of this year The Pokémon Company indicated that it was “investigating” possible violations of its intellectual property, an investigation that now seems to have ended up in court.

Pocketpair has responded to the lawsuit in X, saying it will “commence relevant legal proceedings and investigations into the allegations of patent infringement.”

The company also noted that for the moment “They are unaware of the specific patents they are accused of infringing.” and regretted that they are “forced to spend a lot of time on matters unrelated to game development due to this lawsuit.”

For its part, in communication with media such as Kotaku, Nintendo has indicated that “will refrain from commenting on issues related to the content of the complaint”.
