Bordalás, sanctioned with three matches for his “how brave you are” to the referee after his expulsion

Getafe manager José Bordalás has been banned for three games for his behaviour in the postponed match of the third round of LaLiga EA Sports against Real Betis, one for the double yellow card he received and two for the subsequent protests, the Appeals Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed this Friday.

The Alicante coach received his first warning in the 15th minute, after “disapproving with words, actions and gestures” one of the decisions of the referee from Gran Canaria, Juan Luis Pulido Santana. Later, in the 92nd minute, he was sent off “for leaving the technical area shouting and gesticulating” protesting another referee decision. After his expulsion was confirmed, and according to the match report, the blue coach addressed Pulido Santana with the phrase “how brave you are”.

The Disciplinary Committee imposed the sanction on the Alicante coach, and after an initial appeal by the club, which presented video images, stated that “the facts reflected in the referee’s report are fully consistent with those that emerge from the video evidence, even though, for purely dialectical purposes, they did not occur in the same sequential order in which they were written.”

This Thursday, the RFEF’s Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) defended that there was “no inappropriate comment” by Pulido Santana in the match and requested “the same treatment from all members of football towards the refereeing body”, thus responding to the ‘azulonas’ complaints.

Bordalás will not be on the bench for his team’s matches against Leganés, FC Barcelona and Deportivo Alavés, and will return for the match against Osasuna at the Coliseum on 5 October.
