Germany denies reports of arms export suspension to Israel

The German government has denied reports that it is suspending permits for arms exports to Israel.

“There is no ban on arms exports to Israel and there will be none,” a Finance Ministry spokesman told DPA, adding that the government is examining each individual case individually, taking into account the situation. “When examining each individual case, the current situation is taken into account, including the attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah on Israel, as well as the course of the operation in Gaza,” the Finance Ministry spokesman said.

Israel’s Keshet 12 television channel reported that the news service had obtained comments from the German government’s press service, which called the Reuters report about the export suspension erroneous.

Earlier, Reuters reported that the issuance of new licenses for arms exports to Israel has been suspended due to legal complications. In particular, the Economy Ministry is awaiting a court decision on two lawsuits that claim that arms exports from Germany to Israel violate humanitarian law. Reuters also cites statistics showing a sharp decline in exports to Israel this year.
