Harris campaign outspent Trump rival three times in August

Vice President Kamala Harris told the Federal Election Commission on September 20 that her campaign spent $174 million last month. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump’s campaign spent $61 million in the same period.

The two US presidential candidates are entering a highly competitive race for the White House. Ms. Harris became the Democratic candidate in July, replacing President Joe Biden, and quickly attracted large donations.

The financial advantage of her advertising has helped her get a lot of airtime on television, but that doesn’t mean the strategy can guarantee victory for the US vice president. Polls in many areas, including battleground states, show the two candidates are neck and neck in terms of support.

In the 2016 presidential election, Mr. Trump defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton despite raising less money.

Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris said the bulk of their spending went to advertising, with a smaller portion going to rallies, travel and campaign staff salaries.

In a report to the Federal Election Commission, Ms. Harris’s campaign said it raised $190 million in August. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump’s campaign received $45 million.

As of the end of August, the Harris campaign had $235 million, up from the beginning of the month. The Trump campaign had $135 million, down about $17 million from the beginning of the month.
