“Memory of my son at the G7 concert? It would fill me with joy”

“Giogiò would have definitely played at that concert.” If they remembered him at the G7 Culture “it would fill my heart with joy”. Daniela Di Maggio, mother of Giovanbattista Cutolo, the young musician killed in Naples a year ago, told Adnkronos about the performance of the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti – where her son also played – scheduled for September 20 at the Pompeii Archaeological Park on the occasion of the summit of the Ministers of Culture of the 7 most industrialized countries in the world. “I would love to also because Giogiò would have been there by default on this occasion”, Daniela said, underlining the deep bond that united Giovanbattista to music and the orchestra.

A memory that, according to Daniela Di Maggio, is however “almost necessary because it is also thanks to Giogiò that many concerts were held after his death. I therefore believe it is right to remember him also on this occasion, precisely because it is about culture”. The mother then recalls how the former minister Gennaro Sangiuliano, also present at his son’s funeral, had strongly wanted concerts in his honor.

The concert on September 20 will be conducted by maestro Beatrice Venezi who – her mother recalls – conducted a very young Giogiò and, after the tragedy, a concert in his memory at the Politeama: “She was moved and very emotional. She dedicated beautiful words to my son”. “I can therefore say – concludes Daniela Di Maggio – that there is a direct link between the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti, Beatrice Venezi and my son Giogiò”. And finally a wish: “May music always win over the brutality of consciences”.
