Jan Christen wins bronze in the under-23 time trial

Jan Christen won the medal he was aiming for in the U23 time trial at the Cycling World Championships in Zurich. The 20-year-old from Aargau, who is already competing on the professional tour, came third.

Bronze on the hilly 30 km course came about because the favorite Alec Segaert from Belgium collapsed. Christen, a lightweight, also lost time, especially on the last 12 flat kilometers. He was in danger of finishing fourth.

Contrary to expectations, the favorite Segaert was unable to maintain the pace along the lake basin. He lost almost a minute to the winner Ivan Romeo from Spain. Second place went to the Swede Jakob Söderqvist, 32 seconds behind, Christen was 40 seconds behind. Fabio Weiss took 19th place.

Christen won the third medal for Switzerland at the Road Cycling and Para-Cycling World Championships in Zurich.
