Schulze Solano out for a long time after cruciate ligament tear

Defender Bibiane Schulze Solano will not be available to the German women’s national football team in the coming months. The 25-year-old from Athletic Bilbao suffered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during training last Saturday, the Spanish club announced after detailed examinations. The diagnosis confirmed “the worst predictions”. Schulze Solano will undergo surgery soon, it said.

The central defender will not only be available to the new national coach Christian Wück for his debut match on October 25 at Wembley Stadium against hosts England. A break of at least six months is the norm for cruciate ligament tears. The highlight of the season will be the European Championship in Switzerland next summer from July 2 to 27, 2025.

Schulze Solano has played seven international matches so far and was also called up to the squad for the Olympic Games in Paris by Wück’s predecessor Horst Hrubesch. The former Frankfurt player played three times there and won the bronze medal with the DFB team.
