Will Raúl return? Schalke comments on coaching rumours

FC Schalke 04 is flirting with the rumor that they are interested in Raúl as their new coach. “Since he was here, I always hear his name as soon as someone is fired. Of course, Raúl is a name that excites people. It’s normal that you automatically think about the name – and maybe we do too,” said Schalke’s squad planner Ben Manga on Tuesday. Manga even confirmed that he was recently in Madrid. “But not because of Raúl,” added the 50-year-old.

Since the separation from Karel Geraerts last weekend, rumors have persisted about the Spaniard being signed by the struggling second division football club. Raúl played for Schalke from 2010 to 2012. He is currently working as a coach for Real Madrid’s youth team. “If we didn’t look into the name, you would say: he might have come along, and you haven’t even thought about it yet,” said Manga. But Manga could not say whether the ex-striker was actually an option or not. “It’s difficult to say now,” he said.
