Death toll from floods and landslides in Nepal rises to 170

At least 170 people have been killed in Nepal by floods and landslides caused by heavy rains, mainly in the capital Kathmandu. This was evident from a new official report on Sunday.

Large parts of eastern and central Nepal have been underwater since Friday, as have entire neighborhoods of Kathmandu.

The death toll continues to rise: according to the Ministry of the Interior, there are now 170 dead and 42 missing.

More than 3,000 people are deployed for rescue operations with helicopters and boats. “More than 3,000 people have been rescued” across Nepal, an interior ministry spokesperson said.
