Why Rangnick is only partially right

Few Austrians

A look at the current squad Salzburg shows that no fewer than 15 players Liefering past have. However, there are of them only three Austrians. Salzburg has always been careful when selecting players Performance criteria. The Austrian pot was never an issue; the league’s financial bonuses for minutes played by Austrians were always waived.

“I’m not someone who believes in quotas or special payments,” emphasized Rangnick. Clubs, he knows from his own experience as a sports director, would have theirs Kader always after Performance criteria put together. “We have to deal with what the reality is.”

Reality is that Salzburg coach Pep Lineders last in the Champions League and has completely dispensed with Austrians in the league. When confronted with this, he emphasized that he had only joined the club a few months ago: “I can’t choose the team.” That’s right, that’s what the sports director is for Bernhard Seonbuchner responsible. He didn’t want to make a statement about Rangnick’s criticism on Tuesday.

The Bavarian, who took over the agenda a good year ago, has Christoph Freund took over, turned the Salzburg system upside down? Away from young Austrians? The following facts speak against it:

At the Salzburg won 5-1 in the UEFA Youth League stood on Tuesday 15 Austrians in the 20-man squad. Three of the five hits were achieved by Austrians.

Of the 23 players that U19 team boss Oliver Lederer recently called up, eight came from Salzburg. For the U17 (team boss Hermann Stadler) the odds are 7 out of 21. So one third each comes from Red Bull.

Before his promotion, Seonbuchner worked in the youth ranks and, as an academy director and trainer, he also brought a number of Austrians up the ranks.

Not a local hero

So here it is no Trend reversal in Salzburg. Yes, it is currently missing Local hero in the bull stable. Like it Nicolas Seiwald, Xaver Schlager or Konrad Laimer were who – if fit – are now fixtures in the ÖFB team. However, this is also because players like Amar dedicate (Bosnia) or Oliver Lukic (Croatia) were born and raised in Austria, but chose other national teams. This must certainly also be the case ÖFB question whether you want something overslept hat.

The fact is, however, that of the young Austrians in Liefering currently none good enough is for promotion. Which is certainly also due to the fact that Salzburg can now spend more money on (better) talent from abroad – and does so. Which doesn’t necessarily make it any easier for the young Austrians in Liefering. Although Salzburg continues to attract the country’s best talents to its academies. According to Rangnick, these are obviously not good enough to be considered by the professionals.

Coach Lijnders has to indirectly agree, but at the same time he admits Promise which should also reassure the team boss a little: “If there is an Austrian at Liefering who is interesting to us, he will get his chance. I promise.”
