Season opening Wiesbaden State Theater

A new director can hardly get off to a more exciting start than at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden: Pınar Karabulut is now staging the opera “Grand Macabre” by György Ligeti, Ersan Mondtag is staging “Double Serpent” by Sam Max and in the end the city is left blank.

There is no better way for a new theater management to show that everything will be different now. At the Wiesbaden State Theater, the stupid phrase “restart” actually fits. The two directors, Dorothea Hartmann and Beate Heine, are entering their first season with pointed, outstanding, exciting aesthetic settings. One was in the management team at the Deutsche Oper Berlin until the end, the other in a comparable position at the Schauspiel Köln and most recently at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg (chief dramaturg and deputy director). At some point they decided to take over a theater together. It had been clear for a long time that Wiesbaden would be free and that a “restart” was urgently needed here, too.
