About 50 thousand dockworkers of American seaports on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, united in the International Longshoremen’s Association, announced the largest strike in the last 47 years.
The strikers are demanding a base wage increase of $5 per hour every year for six years, which would increase the base hourly wage from $39 to $69, and also oppose the introduction of new technologies at ports that automate loading and unloading processes.
The strike threatens to push up shipping prices in other countries and also raise prices for imported products in the United States.
