Tax increase: “0.3%” of French households will be affected by the “exceptional” contribution

The Minister of the Budget, Laurent Saint-Martin, gave some details this Thursday on the taxpayers who will be affected by the tax increases. They will directly affect the wealthiest, as the government promised.

“For some households, we are talking about 0.3%, a household without children which receives income of around 500,000 euros per year, (…) we can legitimately ask taxpayers to participate,” he said. indicated this Thursday on the set of “4 vérités” on France 2.

“Temporary and exceptional” contributions

“We are really talking about the most fortunate,” he insisted. His ministry specified that the measure would affect around 75,000 households in France, which had 30.6 million in 2021 according to INSEE. This “exceptional” contribution to the recovery of public finances will be requested, as part of the 2025 draft budget.

The minister repeated that these contributions will be “targeted, temporary and exceptional, first on large companies, but also on households who can participate”. Asked whether this contribution, the terms of which he did not specify, would cover a period of one year, he replied: “We will see that in the debate, but it must be temporary, In the same way as for very large companies, this must be temporary.”

 

He recalled that “there will be no general increase in income tax”. “No, there will be no deindexation of the income tax scale,” he added. Another avenue mentioned to save money, Laurent Saint-Martin confirmed a 6-month delay in the revaluation of basic retirement pensions in 2025. “There will also be an effort made on Social Security, we will also have to work with the Communities local,” he said.
