During the night, an extensive attack was reported in Syria, when the Syrian and Russian air defense systems operated for over 50 minutes. The attack focused on the areas of Latakia, Jablah and Tartus, with the Russian Hamimim airbase being one of the main targets.
According to Syrian sources, more than 30 interceptions were carried out between the hours of 04:00 and 05:50 in the Jabala area and the Hamim air base. Sources associated with the Syrian opposition claim that the Amalah warehouse was attacked, a claim supported by videos from the area showing secondary explosions. The Lebanese “Al-Mayadeen” network, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, reported that Syria’s air defense systems were operating against “hostile objects” in the coastal area, and voices The explosions were heard in Latakia and Tartus.
The incident occurred just hours after an Iranian cargo plane landed at the base. This is the first time that an attack on a Russian base in Syria is reported, if indeed the reports are accurate. The source of the attack is still unclear. There are various hypotheses. Among other things, there is a hypothesis that this is an attack by rebels from Idlib, possibly with the help of Ukrainian forces. Other hypotheses talk about an attack by a foreign country or cooperation together with the rebels.

Hamaim base, located in Latakia province, serves as the strategic center of the Russian operation in Syria since Russia’s intervention in the Syrian civil war in 2015. The existence of the base was first revealed by the United States, and it became a target for various forces operating in the area.
