5 drinks that are not good for diabetics

Wine, beer, carbonated soft drinks, bottled juices, lots of sugar, and alcohol can quickly increase blood sugar immediately after drinking.

The body of a person with diabetes has difficulty getting sugar into the bloodstream for the cells to use. This can lead to increased blood sugar levels, called hyperglycemia. This condition occurs frequently and if left uncontrolled, it can cause damage to organs and tissues in the body.

Alcohol

Consuming too much alcoholic beverages increases the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, and diabetes. Drinking alcohol can cause hypoglycemia. Because the liver is where glucose is stored to provide energy for the body. When drinking alcohol, the liver must continuously process to eliminate toxins, leading to overload, not releasing the necessary amount of sugar into the blood in time, causing hypoglycemia.

Symptoms of low blood sugar caused by drinking alcohol include dizziness or lightheadedness, lack of concentration, difficulty remembering, drowsiness, and nausea. Severe cases can lead to temporary loss of consciousness.

Bia

Beer contains carbohydrates (carbs) that can affect blood sugar levels quickly. Depending on the type of beer, some are high in calories, which can cause rapid weight gain over time. Obesity is a risk factor for many diseases, including diabetes. It is best for diabetics not to drink beer, if they must drink it should be less than 200 ml per day.

Cappuccino

Coffee is rich in caffeine and antioxidants that help relax the mind and stay alert. Caffeine affects the activity of the hormone insulin, which is beneficial for diabetics. However, patients should only drink pure, cold brew coffee, and should not drink milk coffee. Milk is high in sugar, and most of it contains a lot of fat and carbs that can easily increase blood sugar quickly.

Carbonated soft drinks

Soft drinks contain a lot of sugar. The body quickly absorbs the carbs in soft drinks, causing blood sugar levels to spike. Drinking a lot of soft drinks can easily lead to obesity, high blood pressure, insomnia… which negatively affects your health.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), many people choose diet soft drinks to replace carbonated soft drinks, but people with this disease should reduce these non-nutritive drinks. Instead, choose healthier drinks such as filtered water or pure fruit juice.

Bottled fruit juice

While most canned fruit juices are high in added sugar, preservatives, and flavors, they easily increase blood sugar. Bottled fruit juice has very little fiber, so the sugar is easily absorbed into the bloodstream quickly.

Diabetics can make pure juice to quench their thirst. Remember to choose fruits with a low glycemic index. Make your own healthy smoothie with a mix of leafy greens, celery or cucumbers, combined with a handful of berries to give your body the right amount of vitamins and minerals.
