Evelyn Wöldicke becomes the new director of the Liebermann Villa

The Liebermann Villa on Berlin’s Wannsee has found a new director, Evelyn Wöldicke. The art historian with a doctorate will be moving to the museum, which is run by a private association, on November 1st. Wöldicke previously curated exhibitions for the Brandenburg Gate Foundation, which, like the Museum am Wannsee, maintains the legacy of the Berlin artist Max Liebermann. She began her career at the State Museums in Berlin.

As director, Wöldicke would like to show “how much Liebermann, beyond Wannsee, is in Berlin right now” – for example through cooperation with Berlin institutions and trying out new formats for a broad audience. Tilmann von Stockhausen, chairman of the Max Liebermann Society, sees the new director as a “proven expert on the life and work of Max Liebermann”.

The previous director Lucy Wasensteiner left the museum to take on new challenges in research and teaching at the University of Bonn. The Liebermann Villa on Wannsee has a collection of more than 150 Liebermann works that have been available for the house through donations or purchases since 2002. Liebermann had the villa built on Berlin’s Wannsee and used it as a summer residence.
