Setback for Fiebich and Sabally in the WNBA semifinals

The German national basketball players Leonie Fiebich and Nyara Sabally missed their first chance of reaching the final series in the North American professional league WNBA with the New York Liberty team. In the third semifinal game at the Las Vegas Aces, New York lost 81:95 and only leads 2:1 in the best-of-five series. The next game in the series is on Sunday. Should Las Vegas win again at home, the decisive game will take place on Tuesday in New York.

Fiebich scored ten points in just under 28 minutes of playing time. Sabally scored eight points. The best thrower of the game was Aces professional Jackie Young with 24 points. The Aces have recently been WNBA champions twice and defeated New York in the final last year. So far, no team in the history of the league has managed to turn around a 0-2 deficit in the playoffs.

The win against New York was Las Vegas’ twelfth home playoff win in a row. The Aces broke the previous league record. The decisive factor was a 16-0 run in the third quarter when the Liberty did not score a basket for 7:36 minutes.
