He National Prado Museum It exhibits a lost self-portrait of Rosario Weiss alongside the effigies of the best Spanish artists of her time.

The work of this great romantic painter, dated 1841 and recently acquired by the Museo Nacional del Prado, it is already exhibited in room 62A of the Villanueva building.

This self-portrait, with the title ‘Attention’ was believed to be lost and has been identified thanks to a drawing kept in the Museum of Romanticism.

This work, in which the artist represents herself as an allegory of Attention, was conceived together with another painting with which it was paired, also a self-portrait, an allegory of Silence belonging to the collection of the Bordeaux City Council.

“Its incorporation into the Prado collections represents a new step in the museum’s commitment to making visible the role of women artists and thus enriching the discourse on 19th century Spanish art.“says the Museum in a statement.
