According to Reuters, Esmail Qaani, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has not been in contact for several days. This was reported to the agency by two high-ranking sources in the Iranian security forces.
According to sources, Esmail Qaani came to Lebanon after Israel eliminated Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. He was in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiya when, on October 4, the IDF attacked a bunker containing Nasrallah’s likely successor, Hashem Safi Ad-Din. From this point on, neither Hezbollah nor the IRGC can contact Qaani.
The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida wrote on October 6 that Esmail Qaani was wounded during an attempt to eliminate Hashem Safi Ad-Din. According to the publication, Esmail Kaani received multiple wounds in the chest, shoulder and leg. From Beirut he was taken by car to Syria, from where he was transported by plane to Tehran. The publication claims that he is recovering from surgery.
