Matteo Berrettini and the mascot, a complicated relationship. Before the match with the Dane Holger Rune, in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai, the blue player, waiting to take to the court, tries to break the ice with the little girl who accompanies him.

The 28-year-old Roman’s attempts, however, don’t seem to be working very well. The little girl is very focused on her mission and the dialogue that Berrettini tries to establish progressively transforms into a monologue with a final ‘bitter’ reflection…
“Hi, how are you? Are you okay? Nice to meet you”, begins the tennis player, receiving an initial response from the little girl. ”Are you 7 years old? I’m a little older, I’m 28″, says Berrettini, in front of the perplexed look of the mascot. The blue one tries to mimic the number of years and seems to hit the target: the little girl nods, but doesn’t seem very interested. “Lucky you…”, comments the tennis player.
So, the challenge with Rune. Berrettini started well but suffered a comeback from the Dane, who prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2 hours of play.
