The Zócalo FIL will dedicate a forum to the Palestinian cause

The International Book Fair (FIL) in the Zócalo of Mexico City returns for its annual edition, consolidating itself as one of the most important cultural events in the country. The space organized by the Brigade to Read in Freedom, in addition to promoting reading and literature, seeks to generate reflections on crucial topics such as history, politics and everything that affects our daily livesreported on its website.

This year, the FIL will have three forums called Elvia Carrillo Puerto, Felipe Carillo Puerto and Palestine Libre, where talks, debates and the presentation of books will be held with the participation of great national and international writers, academics and journalists.

As an example of the call for this fair, in last year’s edition the then head of Government of Mexico City, Martí Bartres, reported in his X account the attendance of one million 200 thousand people with more than 260 activities for the whole family and 300 publishers with books at accessible prices, which invited reflection and the exchange of ideas for 19 days.

FIL Zócalo not only stands out for carrying out all these activities, but also for its wide editorial offering. This year, various awards will be given, including the Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Prize, the Cenzontle Literary Creation in Native Languages, the Mexico City Chronicle, the Alejandro Aura Young Poetry Prize, and the Vicente Leñero Young Dramaturgy Prize.

The fair, in addition to being a meeting point for book lovers, will offer a rich cultural program that includes music, scenic interventions and exhibitions. To further promote reading, a collection of books will be published and distributed free of charge to attendees.

One of the main venues for the meeting, the Elvia Carrillo Puerto Forum, will feature highly relevant activities. The official inauguration will take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. with the presence of the new head of Government, Clara Brugada, Ana Francis Mor, Argel Gómez and Paloma Saiz Tejero. Before, at 3 p.m., Horacio Franco (flute) and Daniel Ortega (harpsichord) will delight the public with their music, and later, at 4:45 p.m., the book will be presented Suku-un Felipe: Felipe Carrillo Puerto and the Mayan revolution of Yucatánby Armando Bartra.

In the same forum, on Saturday the Artis string quintet will give a recital at 11:15 a.m., and the next day, at 3 p.m., Elena Poniatowska will participate in a talk in which the public will be given a book about his work in The Day. She will be accompanied by Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Marta Lamas, Argel Gómez and Fabrizio Mejía Madrid.

The Felipe Carrillo Puerto Forum will also have unmissable presentations, such as the book The happy boys of the class struggleby Paco Ignacio Taibo II, on Saturday the 12th at 4:30 p.m., with the participation of Juan Becerra. will also be presented Memories of neoliberalismby Fabrizio Mejía Madrid, which will feature the intervention of monero Jose Hernandez.

A week later, on Sunday, October 20 at 7 p.m., Clara Brugada will chat with attendees about her program Building Utopias.

This year, the FIL will have a special forum dedicated to the Palestinian cause. Among the scheduled activities, the talk about the documentary stands out Maya Trends, by director Epigmenio Ibarra, on Friday the 11th at 5:15 p.m., and the presentation of the book The party of deathby the cartoonist Pepe Gálvez, on Saturday the 12th at 5:15 p.m., with the participation of Eduardo Limón.

The presentation of the work will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 3:45 p.m. Yam Sisters: Black Women and Our Recovery, by the iconic feminist author bell hooks, with the presence of translator Jumko Ogata Aguilar. This event will feature the participation of Laura Cárdenas and André Lô Sánchez.

Finally, on Sunday the 20th at 4:30 p.m. the title will be presented Tsunami 3, from the Sexto Piso publishing house, with the presence of the authors, Mónica Nepote and Nayely García.
