Media: Israel and Egypt are discussing amendments to the peace treaty

The Qatari publication Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed reports that Egypt and Israel, with the participation of the United States, are discussing amendments to the annexes to the peace treaty regarding restrictions on the deployment of armed forces in the Sinai Peninsula, in the Gaza Strip and along the border with Egypt on Israeli territory.

According to the publication, the goal of the negotiations is to bring the agreement into line with the current situation, both in the Philadelphia corridor and in the Sinai Peninsula.

According to the agreement, the territory of the Sinai Peninsula is divided into zones A, B and C, each of which has a limited number of troops and weapons. Area D is Israeli territory along the border with Egypt and is subject to IDF restrictions.

The annexes to the agreement have already been revised twice previously, in 2005 and in 2021. As part of these changes, Egypt received the right to increase its contingent in northern Sinai and equip it with heavier weapons.
