Kaapo Kähkönen is changing clubs in the NHL – quite a bunch of Finns in the same team

Keeper Kaapo Kähkönen moves to the Colorado Avalanche, who picked him up from NHL waivers, i.e. the so-called from the transfer list.

Kähkönen’s new teammates are the superstar who won the 2016 under-20 World Cup gold with him Mikko Rantanen and the winner of the same title a couple of years earlier Artturi Lehkonen.

The team also has a Finnish goalkeeper colleague Justus Annunenwho left for the season Aleksandar Georgievin as a deputy.

There is also a lot of Finns in Colorado Joel Kiviranta.

Annunen and Kähkönen are in Avalanche in Finnish, as the team’s goalkeeper coach is Jussi Parkkila.

Kähkönen signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets in the summer. However, fate in Manitoba was grim when Eric Comrie took the second keeper position and Kähkönen was sent to the transfer list.

The Espoo hockey school graduate has previously played in the NHL in Minnesota, San Jose and last spring in New Jersey.
