Israel | Insurance companies will again fund the police anti-car theft unit

The command of the Etgar police unit, which combats car theft, held a number of meetings with the association of insurance companies.

As The Marker reports, the parties reached an agreement in principle to finance the work of the division by insurance companies.

According to the publication, at the meeting, which was headed by the commander of the Lahav 433 department of the Israeli police, Brigadier General Boaz Blat, they discussed long-term funding – for a period of 3-5 years, to ensure the expansion of the staff and its training.

At the same time, Blat emphasized at the meeting that the unit has the advanced technologies necessary for its work.

The association of insurance companies expressed their readiness to finance the division, provided that large leasing companies also take part in it.

It should be noted that this is not the first such agreement. Insurance and leasing companies financed the operation of the Etgar unit between 2005 and 2017, when the practice was discontinued amid criticism over the police unit’s dependence on private interests.
