Cortona on the Move appointment with international photography

Cortona On The Move continues to surprise and, in this 14th edition, brings the international photography beyond the city walls. Until November 3, the streets of Cortona are the scene of extraordinary exhibitions, but this year the festival goes further: the beating heart of contemporary photography expands towards Paris and Lucca, marking new cultural connections.

From 7 to 10 November, the photographic project Restraint and Desire by Ken Graves and Eva Lipman, curated by Paolo Woods e Kublaiklan will fly to Paris, within the prestigious PhotoSaintGermain, a meeting between two festivals of international importance which underlines the global scope of Cortona On The Move. This cultural exchange confirms the festival as a point of reference for world photography, capable of spreading emotions and visual reflections far beyond the Italian borders.

But that’s not all: thanks to the collaboration and support of Tuscan bus linesNiccolò Rastrelli will bring his project They Don’t Look Like Me, currently exhibited at Palazzo Baldelli in Cortona, to Lucca Comics & Games. The work, which explores the phenomenon of cosplayers in different countries around the world, will be visible from 30 October to 3 November with two blow-ups at the Intesa Sanpaolo – isybank stand, while the entire exhibition will be set up at the San Francesco Auditorium. Another great novelty of this edition is the exhibition Giro Giro Corpo – Photobooks for children and adults, with the editorial research of Kublaiklan and Spazio BK, hosted at Palazzo Baldelli.

This project transforms the reading for the little ones in an interactive experience, using the visual language of photography. Veronica Nicolardi, director of the Cortona On The Move festival, explains: “We deeply believe in photography as a growth tool for young people. For this reason we decided to extend the festival by a month, so as to offer children and schools the opportunity to visit the exhibitions and actively participate in this experience. The Giro Giro Corpo exhibition aims to broaden our audience, involving families and stimulating the creativity of the little ones through photo books. Art develops critical thinking and creates new connections, which is why we want to make this experience accessible and engaging for everyone.”

Furthermore, until November 3rd, primary and secondary schools will be able to access the festival with a reduced ticket of just €3, which includes a visit to all the exhibitions and a dedicated guide. For further information and reservations, write to [email protected]

Cortona On The Move 2024 revolves around the theme “Body of Evidence”exploring the body and identity through the works of internationally renowned artists such as Philip Montgomery, Rehab Eldalil, Myriam Boulos, Valery Poshtarov, Carmen Winant and many others. The 22 exhibitions, of which 4 collective and 18 individual, they wind through 7 locations in the Tuscan village: from Palazzo Baldelli to the Girifalco Fortress, passing through Station C, the former Meat Warehouse, the Via Crucis, Palazzo Casali and the historic center of Cortona.
The exhibitions can be visited until November 3rd, every day from 10am to 6pm. The ticket offices are located at the COTM STORE and BOOKSHOP in Palazzo Baldelli (Vicolo Boni 7) and at the Fortezza del Girifalco (Via di Fortezza).
