Vietjet’s first flight using sustainable fuel

The flight used sustainable aviation fuel SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) fueled by Petrolimex Aviation, reducing carbon emissions by 80%, taking off on October 17 at Tan Son Nhat.

Vietjet General Director Dinh Viet Phuong said the two flights using SAF fuel provide an environmentally friendly experience for travelers. The airline is committed to continuing to contribute to reducing carbon emissions in the aviation industry and sustainable development through similar flights.

Vietjet’s activities are part of a series of sustainable development projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, which Vietjet started more than 10 years ago when it only had three aircraft.

Director of the Vietnam Aviation Administration Dinh Viet Thang congratulated Vietjet Air and Petrolimex Aviation on successfully organizing the first international flight using SAF sustainable aviation fuel. He said this is the pride of the entire industry, contributing to implementing the Government’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, affirming that Vietnam is a responsible member of international aviation.

Sharing the same opinion, Mr. Pham Van Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Petroleum Group highly appreciated the SAF refilling activity for Vietjet’s international flights. He said this is an important milestone for Petrolimex Aviation and Petrolimex. The Group commits to creating conditions for Petrolimex Aviation to continue researching, developing and supplying SAF products long-term, aiming to become a green energy enterprise.

SAF is considered the future fuel of the aviation industry. Besides the first test flights, SAF production costs will continue to decrease, contributing to ensuring SAF fuel on commercial flights.

Vietjet also seeks to cooperate with international units to carry out research, development, supply and use of SAF, according to the goal of reducing net emissions to zero (Net Zero) by 2050 as committed by the Government. Vietnam at COP26.

The airline also implemented a green shift, being one of the first units to have an ESG sustainability report. The above activities contribute to implementing the National Strategy on Green Growth, the goals of net emission reduction, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
