Women’s Champions League: After Popp’s shock in the anniversary game: “I’m running again”

After a “shock moment” in the anniversary game, exceptional striker Alexandra Popp gave the all-clear. “I’m doing well. “I’m running again,” said the 33-year-old after her VfL Wolfsburg’s 2-0 defeat in the Champions League against Olympique Lyon on Thursday evening.

In her 100th game in the premier class, the long-time captain of the German national soccer team limped off the pitch in stoppage time with an ankle injury after she collided with her opponent Melchie Durmornay and was treated on the pitch.

“It was actually a brief moment of shock for me too because my foot was numb and tingled for a moment. That’s why I didn’t know what happened to me for a while,” Popp reported. Popp announced her retirement from the national team at the end of September. The three-time footballer of the year will play her 145th and final international match against Australia in Duisburg on October 28th.
