The US, Germany, France and the UK called for an “end to the war in the Gaza Strip”

Following a meeting in Berlin, US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron issued a joint statement calling for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip after the elimination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar.

At the same time, Biden called it a “moment of justice,” saying that Sinwar has “the blood of Israelis, Palestinians, Americans, Germans and many others” on his hands. He said he called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to use this moment as “a chance to get on the path to peace, to a better future in the Gaza Strip without Hamas.”

Scholz also expressed hope that “concrete prospects will now open up for a ceasefire and reaching an agreement on the release of hostages in Gaza.” He stressed: “Israel has the right to self-defense. It is important for me to say this very clearly. We stand with Israel,” Deutsche Welle reported.
