PSG: why Nuno Mendes is held back by Luis Enrique’s tactics

A real sense of percussion, a desire to bring danger and a creative contribution which materializes in decisive gestures: Nuno Mendes has once again taken advantage of the international break to show his most attractive face. That of a full-back with undeniable technical qualities who remains a formidable offensive weapon. This “fast and furious” version of the defender has something to seduce and has allowed him to be considered one of the most talented footballers in his position. And yet, it remains relatively little perceptible in Luis Enrique’s PSG.

We see more of a defender retained in the animation, less exposed offensively, and also subject to some defensive air gaps. If we saw him a little more at the forefront before the break in Nice where he was directly involved in the Parisian goal, Nuno Mendes became under the orders of his coach a left-back confined to a more conservative role than by the past. Enough to generate a degree of frustration when we know the potential of the 22-year-old young man and the shortcomings in PSG’s attack seen during certain meetings.
