A federal judge on Friday suspended Google’s obligation to open its app store to competitors. The suspension applies for the duration of the appeal procedure.
The Alphabet branch had filed summary proceedings to prevent the measure from coming into effect on November 1.
Google responded to the French news agency AFP with satisfaction about the postponement. According to the tech company, the measure would “complicate Google Play’s ability to guarantee the safety of its users.”
On October 7, an American judge ruled in favor of Epic Games, the maker of the popular game Fortnite. The company accused Google of abuse of power and stated that Google Play’s rules and fees made competition and payments within third-party apps more difficult.
