Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners

On October 18, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 190 prisoners of war within the framework of an agreement brokered by the United Arab Emirates.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia reported in Telegram that 95 of the returned Russian soldiers are undergoing medical examination in Belarus.

“Every time Ukraine frees people from Russian captivity, we are getting closer to the day when freedom will be returned to all those who are in Russian captivity,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in Telegram.

Ukrainian media reports that among those returned is Ukrainian journalist and human rights defender Maxim Butkevich, who was convicted by a Russian court of shooting at Russian troops.

The last known prisoner exchange was in September.

Earlier, on October 18, Russia and Ukraine exchanged the bodies of the fallen servicemen. The bodies of 501 soldiers were returned to Ukraine, and 89 to Russia.
