Spain is the Guest Country in the market space of the XXII DocLisboa International Film Festival, Nebulae 2024, which is held from October 17 to 27 in the Portuguese capital.
This recognition is part of the commitment that the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) has with documentary film, thus offering a platform for the Spanish film industry.
Furthermore, explains the Ministry of Culture in a statement, this edition acquires a special symbolism as it is part of the binational commemorative program ‘Portugal-Spain. 50 Years of Culture and Democracy’ which is, in turn, part of the eighth edition of Mostra Espanha, a Spanish culture festival that promotes Culture in the Portuguese country every two years.
On the occasion of this collaboration, the festival, together with the ICAA, has organized a series of meetings and networking activities, as well as a session to present projects in development and in the post-production phase.
These activities have the main objective of “promoting” projects with “international potential”, both in terms of co-production and distribution.
Likewise, a round table entitled ‘Exiles and colonialism: reappropriating domestic archives as a mirror of democracy’ will be held, which will accompany a special screening of Mostra Espanha at DocLisboa, curated by Josetxo Cerdán.
On the other hand, the projects selected for the NEBULAE section, which are in different stages of production, were chosen through an open call, reflecting the diversity of themes and approaches of Spanish filmmakers.
Specifically, those selected are, on the one hand, three feature films in post-production: ‘The birthplace is the first color’ by David Baute, produced by Tinglado Film; ‘Dríades’ by Miguel Eek, produced by Mosaic; and ‘Reflections of the Green House’ by Antonio Morales, produced by Nadadora Films.
And, on the other hand, five feature films in the development phase will be shown: ‘ANUNNAKI. Walk, dance, shine and feel free’ by Iker Oiz Elgorriaga, produced by Kontuka; ‘Graham Greene in Spain and Portugal’ by Aser Álvarez González, produced by Arraianos Produciones; ‘Oasis’ by Irene Baqué, produced by 15L Films; ‘Sara Flores and the universe of Kené’ by Èlia Gasull Balada, produced by Funicular Films, Desfase Films, Pista B and Maria Altamirano; and ‘Hauek ez dira orbainak (This is not a scar)’ by Tamara García Iglesias, produced by Atekaleun.
