A drone was launched this Saturday towards the home of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the city of Caesarea, in northern Israel, his spokesman said. The prime minister was not at the scene at the time, and there were no casualties.
The attack occurred two days after the death of Yahya Sinwar, leader of the terrorist group Hamas, which was eliminated by Israel last Thursday, October 17.
Earlier, the Israeli army reported the launch of a drone from Lebanon, which hit a building. It is not yet known exactly what the target was. Two other drones that crossed Israeli airspace were intercepted, according to the army. Although Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed terrorist group based in Lebanon, did not claim responsibility for the attack, it is likely that the offensive came from that organization.
Israel’s ambulance service and police confirmed there were no casualties, although explosions were heard in Caesarea, where Netanyahu has a summer home.
In reaction to the attack, Netanyahu published two videos on social media, in Hebrew and English, stating that “nothing will stop us” and that Israel “will win this war”. The videos, released on Shabbat, did not directly mention the drone attack.
Walking through a sunny park, wearing sunglasses and a black polo shirt, the prime minister declared: “You know, two days ago we eliminated the mass murderer (Hamas leader) Yahya Sinwar. As I said, we are in an existential war and we are going to the end.” He also took the opportunity to express his pride in Israeli soldiers and commanders, as well as thanking the people of Israel.
