Biden calls on Aliyev to complete the peace treaty with Armenia this year

The US President addressed a letter to Aliyev, urging him to complete the Peace Treaty with Armenia within this year.

“The President of the United States is happy to see the steady progress between Azerbaijan and Armenia towards the Peace Treaty. “Washington remains steadfast in supporting a lasting and dignified peace between the two countries, which will finally put an end to the age-old conflict,” Joe Biden wrote in a letter sent to the President of Azerbaijan, which was published by Azerbaijan’s state-run “Azertaj” agency.

“The peace treaty will not only guarantee Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, but will also transform the entire region, paving the way for increased trade, investment, and communication between Europe and Central Asia,” Biden said.

The letter was released after a meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in New York weeks ago, attended by the US secretary of state, where Blinken encouraged efforts to finalize the agreement as soon as possible.

The head of the White House also addressed Baku with the same appeal. “Now that the world’s attention is turning to Baku for COP29, you have a unique opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to peace before the world community,” wrote Joe Biden, emphasizing: – “Reconciliation of the non-agreed articles of the peace treaty will require a creative approach and compromise from all parties. However, I am sure that you will continue to take steps in that direction, and I encourage you to complete the contract during this year.”
