Lao leaders sent a letter of congratulations and expressed their desire to cooperate closely on the occasion of Mr. Luong Cuong’s election as President for the 2021-2026 term.
In today’s congratulatory letter, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed that Mr. Luong Cuong’s election as President shows the trust and appreciation of the Party and State. and the Vietnamese people for him, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lao leaders believe that President Luong Cuong and other Party and State leaders will lead the country and people of Vietnam to “continue to achieve new and greater achievements in the reform process to achieve the goal of The goal is to become a modern, industrialized country with rich people, a strong country, democratic, fair and civilized.”
General Secretary and President of Laos wishes to cooperate closely with President Luong Cuong to continue contributing to cultivating the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, good traditions of Laos – Vietnam is increasingly developing, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries as well as peace, stability and cooperation for development in the region and the world.

On the afternoon of October 21, the National Assembly passed a Resolution to elect Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Luong Cuong to hold the position of President for the 2021-2026 term with an absolute approval of 440/440 delegates. President Luong Cuong then took the oath of office.
Mr. Luong Cuong, 67 years old, from Phu Tho province, is a member of the Party Central Committee for the 11-13 term; Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the 12th and 13th term; Member of the 13th Politburo; Member of the 15th National Assembly.
He joined the army in 1975, holding many positions in the Vietnam People’s Army. In January 2019, Mr. Luong Cuong was promoted to general, the 15th person to hold the highest military rank of the Vietnam People’s Army.
On May 16, General Luong Cuong, Head of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, was assigned by the Politburo to be the Standing Committee of the Secretariat, before being elected President.
