Greens in Berlin want to return to the Senate

The Greens in Berlin want to participate in government again after the House of Representatives elections in autumn 2026. “We as the Greens have never shied away from taking responsibility in the past, both in the districts and at the state level,” said Green Party state chairman Philmon Ghirmai to the daily newspaper “taz”.

“We not only want to develop concepts, we also want to implement them in the government. This means we are preparing to take responsibility again in the state of Berlin from 2026.”

Co-Chairwoman Stahr: “We will not have any coalition debates now”

From the point of view of the Green Party leadership, it is unclear which other parties they would prefer to form a new Senate with. “We will not be having any coalition debates here two years before the election,” said co-chair Nina Stahr. “We will write our program, focus on climate protection and social justice and then we will see who we can implement it with.”

The Greens governed in Berlin together with the SPD and the Left until the repeat of the House of Representatives elections in February 2023. The SPD then decided to enter into coalition negotiations with the CDU, although a continuation of the joint government with the Greens and the Left would have been mathematically possible.
