Vietnam develops standards to take advantage of Halal industry opportunities

Information given at the conference “Promoting internal resources, strengthening international cooperation to promote the development of Vietnam’s Halal industry”, held on the afternoon of October 22 in Hanoi. The global Halal market is forecast to reach $10 trillion by 2030, spread across the world, from Muslim to non-Muslim countries, with the Muslim population forecast to reach nearly 3 billion people. by 2050, accounting for nearly 30% of the global population.

To meet this market demand, the Ministry of Science and Technology has operated the Vietnam National Halal Certification Center (HALCERT) and developed a set of Vietnam Halal standards.

Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that the Ministry has proactively developed national Halal standards for food, agricultural production, animal feed and animal slaughter according to Halal.

In 2023, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced national standards for Halal certification organizations. Next, national standard TCVN 14230:2024 Muslim-friendly tourism services – Requirements to facilitate the attraction of Muslim tourists to visit, relax, travel and conference in Vietnam was also built.

According to the Minister, this national standard will contribute to supporting Vietnamese travel and tourism businesses to create added value for their products by serving the flow of tourists from the Middle East and Muslim countries. , contributing to Vietnam’s Halal industry development program.

He said that in the coming time, the Ministry will continue to coordinate with ministries, branches, businesses and international partners to build a sustainable Halal ecosystem, from standardizing production processes to strengthening capacity. Scientific research and technology development to improve Vietnam’s Halal certification capacity, ensuring products and services meet the highest international standards.

President of the Indian Halal Certification Authority Mohamed Jinna acknowledged that Vietnam is at a golden time to seize opportunities to participate in this market of more than 7,000 billion USD. “Vietnam has the potential to become an important factor, the center of the global Halal economy,” he said.
