Unions and employers meet this Thursday to try to avoid the transporters’ strike

The transport employers’ association, represented in the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC), and the CCOO, UGT and SLT unions will meet this Thursday to debate the early retirement for the sector and avoid a strike which will begin on October 28 and will have seven days of strikes before becoming indefinite.

The meeting will take place this Thursday, October 24, at the headquarters of the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA)a public mediation organization supervised by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, as reported by Europa Press.

The unions demand employers’ recognition of the hardship and danger of the profession and the immediate application by law of reducing coefficients to the retirement age for professional drivers.

Likewise, they request that it be considered agreement a partial retirement with a replacement contract, voluntary for the driver who can continuously accumulate the percentage that he has to work and in his place among a young person.

Last Monday’s meeting ended with the call for the strike for the medical transport group (ambulances)since an agreement was reached with the employers on the retirement age.

The CNTC has already transferred its willingness to talk with social agents, and with the administration itself, the parameters according to which claiming early retirement is possible.

However, this body made up of the country’s main companies, also the self-employed to whom this early retirement would apply, remembers that the social contributions supported by transport companies “are already the highest in Europe”, in reference to the higher expenses in the form of contributions that would mean lowering the retirement age.

If an agreement is not reached, the first of the strike days will take place on October 28, followed by November 11, 28 and 29; December 5 and 9 and, starting on the 23rd of that month, the strike will be indefinite.
