Google opens the code for its watermarking tool for AI-generated texts

Google has opened SynthID, the tool that inserts a digital watermark in content generated by artificial intelligence (AI), so that developers and companies can use it for free in their texts.

SynthID is a technology that adds a digital watermark directly to the pixels of an image. In this way, it is a mark that is imperceptible to the human eye but, through a computer program, it is detectable for identification.

Google introduced this tool in August last year, as a measure to help users differentiate AI-generated content. As he explained then, it does not compromise the quality of the image, but it does allow the watermark to be detectable with the appropriate technology even after modifications, such as filters, changing colors or saving the image with various compression schemes.

Since then, Google itself has extended this tool to texts and videos created by generative AI, including those of its Veo model, capable of generating high-quality video (1,080p) from text. Likewise, in May it announced the opening of SynthID to developers for text watermarks.
