From Abramović to Pistoletto, ‘The myths of contemporary art’ on display in Catania

The Puglisi Cosentino Foundation opens a new season in its historic headquarters in Palazzo Valle in Catania with an important exhibition dedicated to the great masters of the 20th and 21st centuries. ‘The myths of contemporary art’, scheduled from 1 November to 31 May 2025, is a journey through installations, paintings, sculptures, videos, drawings and graphic works, which summarize the creative work of artists who, starting from the 1960s of the twentieth century, have changed the very idea of ​​art.

Conceptual art, poor art, behavioral art, abstract art tell the experiences and research of artists such as Sol Lewitt, Mario Merz, Marina Abramović, Vettor Pisani, Ai Weiwei who, together with Alighiero Boetti, Giuseppe Penone, Zhang Hongmei, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Franco Politano, Lamberto Pignotti, David Tremlett, Xiao Lu and many others make up the vast mosaic of contemporary art languages. Developed on the two floors of the historic Palace, the exhibition avails itself of the curatorship of Francesco Poli and Vincenzo Sanfo and of a particular section dedicated to contemporary Chinese art. Most of the works on display, some of which are rarely seen, come from very important private collections. A tribute to Giulio Paolini, who will be present with a personal room, confirms the relevance of an exhibition that presents the elite of international art.

These are the artists on display: Marina Abramović, Ai Weiwei, El Anatsui, Giovanni Anselmo, John Armleder, Alighiero Boetti, Ugo Carrega, Sandro Chia, Jago, Jan Jedlička, Jeff Koons, Sol LeWitt, Ma Han, Luigi Mainolfi, Mario Merz, Jonathan Monk, Nika Neelova, Giulio Paolini, Tancredi Parmeggiani, Giuseppe Penone, Lamberto Pignotti, Vettor Pisani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Franco Politano, Anselm Reyle, Mimmo Rotella, Mauro Staccioli, David Tremlett, Peter Wuetrich, Gilberto Zorio, Song YonGping, Xiao Lu , Zhang Zhaohong.

Not only that: the Puglisi Cosentino Foundation also hosts an exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo in the images of the great photographers, created specifically for Palazzo Valle, which tells the story of the artist involved in Mexican events. A section of the exhibition is dedicated to the dialogue with the myth of Frida by the artists Marco Lodola, Xu De Qi, Zang Hong Mei and Nicola Pucci.
