In today’s session, the electoral district commission No. 31 satisfied the applications of five people included in the pre-election list of the “Balasanyan” bloc in 2021, but who did not receive the mandate of the council of elders, to withdraw from the list.
Deputy mayor Suren Janoyan sent one of the notarized applications, who is also one of the last numbers on the pre-election list of the “Balasanyan” bloc and did not receive a mandate.
Janoyan, who is under house arrest, is one of the persons involved in the criminal case of former mayor Samvel Balasanyan. The law enforcers claim that with his help, the Balasanyans fraudulently took possession of the lands adjacent to the historical Black Fortress of Gyumri.
It was after this criminal case that persistent rumors began to circulate that the ruling “Balasanyan” bloc will soon resign with its entire membership. However, the constituency commission has not received such an application from the current members of the council.
Now there is one person left in the pre-election list of the “Balasanyan” alliance who has not submitted an application to withdraw from the list. He is not in Armenia.
If the “Balasanyan” alliance gives up the mandates, and the latter does not submit an application to withdraw from the list, then according to the chairman of the commission Tigran Ghazaryan, he will be given a mandate.
