Arturo Márquez received the Cervantina Prize of the 52nd edition of the FIC

I am more than very grateful, very excited, and more than very excited, very grateful tooexpressed the composer Arturo Márquez (Álamos, Sonora, 1950) upon receiving the Cervantina Prize at the 52nd International Cervantino Festival (FIC), from the hands of the director of the meeting, Mariana Aymerich.

Márquez has been present at concerts in Guanajuato for many years, although, Of course, I did not imagine that I would have recognition of this magnitudehe stated in the ceremony that took place in the halls of the Juárez theater, which was broadcast live on the festival networks.

The effort I have put into the search for making new music that has to do with the traditional, the popular or the academic has been a challenge, a hope. So, I appreciate a medal of this magnitude even more. Rest assured that I will keep it in a very special place, mainly in my heart, as well as in my house.

He was grateful that this recognition gives him strength to continue creating, searching and finding new ways to make music. Fortunately, we have a lot of strength to continue workingsaid the winner, who was accompanied by his wife, Laura Calderón.

Aymerich noted that the delivery of the Cervantina Prize is sample of our deepest gratitude to the indelible mark that maestro Márquez has left on our lives. His creations have been a source of enjoyment and beauty, they have transported us to imaginary worlds, and he has awakened emotions in us and touched our souls. We appreciate your passion.

The head of the FIC and Cultural Circuits added: “Our winner is a virtuoso of perseverance, innovation and creative restlessness, with a deep love for culture.

Thanks to his compositions he has made Mexico’s name a benchmark for contemporary music. He is the living composer of concert music most performed by prestigious orchestras in Mexico and the world. I would say the most generous as well, due to his work with both large orchestras and with seedbeds and children.

In addition to the nine danzones that Márquez has composed, Aymerich evoked works such as Landscapes under the sign of the cosmos, Zarabandeo, Masks, Mirrors in the sand, Dreams y Marches of mourning and anger, among others.

In recent years, he recalled, “we have had the great privilege of hearing his compositions at the Cervantino, for example, in the presentation of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, when it was performed Fandango”.

Adalberto Tovar, director of the Guanajuato State Band, representing the entity’s Secretariat of Culture, stated that the awarding of the award is “just a sample of the impeccable career of this great artist.

In his cantatas, divertimentos, chamber music and, of course, in his famous danzones, as well as in all his work, Márquez anticipates an entity that speaks through instruments and voices to an audience that is confronted by familiarity and mystery of the notes and sounds that run through concert halls, parks and any public place where they are interpreted.
