Singer-songwriter Rainald Grebe cancels all dates

The songwriter and cabaret artist Rainald Grebe has canceled all performances for the next few months. The 53-year-old is in hospital. “He had another stroke,” said his spokeswoman when asked. “At the moment no one can say how long it will take him to recover from this.”

On the artist’s official website, all dates across Germany have been canceled until spring 2025. On Facebook it says: “Dear community, we regret to inform you that all of Rainald Grebe’s appearances have been canceled. Rainald is ill and is unable to carry out the planned performances.”

Many people posted well wishes under the post. “Get well soon and all the best, Rainald! Hopefully you’ll get fit again. We still need you,” is one comment. Another reads: “All the best, please take care!”

Grebe was supposed to perform, among other things, in February with the Reconciliation Chapel in Berlin’s Admiralspalast, and also in March with the Wühlmäuse. Appearances in other German cities were also canceled – including Munich, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main on the musician’s website can be read. Tickets can be returned at the respective point of sale, it says.

Grebe, who was born in Cologne and lives in Brandenburg, has known since 2014 that he suffers from the autoimmune disease vasculitis, which often causes him to have strokes. In July 2023, the all-rounder had another big concert in Berlin’s Waldbühne.

Serious illness leads to strokes

At that time he had told the “Berliner Zeitung” in advance that it was a gift to be able to hold this big “Hallelujah Berlin” concert. “I’m not dying right now, but my brain is decomposing. What I have is a vascular disease. The small veins in the brain burst or narrow.”

Grebe is known for sharp-tongued lyrics, such as the song “Brandenburg,” which he would no longer write today as he once said. Because the song was about putting something down.
