Women’s France – Hungary: an inauguration and a revenge to be taken for the Bleues du handball

It’s a shame to have spoiled the premiere of the new coach Sébastien Gardillou. Apart from that, the defeat of the French handball team on October 24 against Hungary in Toulon 30-27 is not even more worrying than that.

Diminished by the absence of several executives left to rest, starting with captain Estelle Nze Minko, the French women’s handball team did not produce a clean copy, that’s for sure. “We had a lot of shooting failures, too many. I know that the French team has this little Achilles heel, it has always had it, analyzes Sébastien Gardillou, Olivier Krumbholz’s assistant since 2016.

But it is too early, two and a half months after the Games, to draw lessons from this return to the stage of Olympic vice-champions. “It’s not the return to school that we would have imagined, I would have liked to offer Sébastien Gardillou a first victory with the French team,” admits interim captain Tamara Horacek. The context was not simple, with little training together, a return after the Games and a reunion. We lost a lot of balls, we missed a lot of shots and in the end we lost. But I have the impression that the result does not reflect what we delivered, we had room to do much better but we missed a lot of things at the conclusion. »

Olivier Krumbholz honored

No, all this is not serious, on one condition however: that the Blues correct the situation quickly. One month before the Euro (November 28, December 15), we must not let doubt begin to weave a web. Less than 48 hours after a first round in the Var, the French team meets the same Hungarians this Saturday at 5:15 p.m. The match takes place in Tremblay (93) in the new Arena du Grand Paris inaugurated for the occasion.

This match would be better to win. “What I want to remember from the first match,” insists Orlane Kanor, “is that we gave everything to try to get back together in the second period. We have the balls but we don’t convert them. Afterwards, we spend our time chasing the score and, inevitably, we get a little exhausted. We will arrive in Tremblay ready to deliver another performance.”

During the day, former coach Olivier Krumbholz will be honored. He will enter the new Hall of Fame of the federation which honors all those who have played or managed more than 200 matches for the France team. There are seventeen of them to date who have their place there.
