US star Shiffrin leads the giant slalom

The American is in Giant slalom in Sölden in the lead after the first round and sets course for hers 98th World Cup victory.

In the absence of last year’s winner Lara Gut-Behrami (SUI), who withdrew her start at short notice, was relegated Shiffrin the New Zealander Alice Robinson (+0.22 seconds) and the Italian Federica Brignone (+0.40 seconds) took the places.

“You’re always a little nervous before the first race. That was really good,” said the 29-year-old American.

Brunner’s self-criticism
