Hackers linked to the Chinese dictatorship tried to hack the cell phones of the former president of the United States and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, and his running mate, JD Vance, reported this Friday (25) the broadcaster CNN and the newspaper The New York Times.

The reports pointed out that there were also attempts to intercept telephone communications from members of Democrat Kamala Harris’ campaign and senior officials from President Joe Biden’s government. It is not yet known whether these attempts were successful and what data may have been accessed.

“The U.S. government is investigating unauthorized access to commercial telecommunications infrastructure by actors affiliated with the People’s Republic of China,” the FBI and U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) said in a statement. announced this Friday.

The note adds that the two federal agencies “immediately notified affected companies, provided technical assistance, and quickly shared information to assist other potential victims” when they identified the hacking attempts.
