Iran warned that it has a “duty to defend itself” after Israel’s missile attack and questioned US support

Iran underlined this Saturday its “legitimate” and “obligatory” right to defend itself after Israel’s attack this morning against military targets in the country that caused the death of at least two soldiers.

“As the competent authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have stressed many times, based on the inherent right of self-defense, which is also reflected in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, we consider defense against acts of foreign aggression,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Iranian diplomacy emphasized that it will use “all the material and spiritual capabilities of the Iranian nation to defend your safety and vital interests“.

At the same time, he considered the “aggressive action of the Zionist regime” as “a clear violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, especially the principle of prohibition of the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of countries.”

Furthermore, he accused Israel of being the “main cause of tension and insecurity in the region” and singled out the United States and other Western countries for their “broad military and political support” for the Jewish state.

He also called on UN member countries to stop “the genocide, war and aggression against Gaza and Lebanon and stop the warmongering of the Zionist regime.”

The Israeli Army announced this Saturday that it carried out “precise attacks against Iranian military targets” in retaliation “for the months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime against the State of Israel.”

In the attack on military bases in the provinces of Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran two soldiers diedalthough military and civilian authorities reiterated that the bombings caused “limited damage.”

Iran attacked Israel on October 1 with some 180 missiles in response to the assassinations of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, in Beirut, and the leader of the Palestinian Hamas militia, Ismael Haniyeh, in Tehran.

That was Iran’s second attack on Israel after it first attacked Israeli territory in April in another series of missile and drone strikes.
